Berättelsen om Gudinnan Eostre/Ostara och Haren ...
Så här går berättelsen/sägnen om Gudinnan Ostara och Haren .
Once, toward the end of winter, the Goddess Eostre was walking through the Black Forest. She stopped now and again to listen to the stems growing up from roots under the snow, which made Her smile. She knew that soon it would be Her own time to rule joyfully on the face of the forest and fields. She was dreaming of beautiful colors of blue, purple, and bright yellow, red, pink and delicate white in the flowers and blossoms She knew would soon adorn the ground and the trees. As She floated over the ground between two old oaks, She heard the squeak and the cheep of a poor bird who was lying in the dead leaves and snow. She stooped to scoop up the poor little winged one and kne...w that it was quite ill. It had survived an attack of a wolf and had managed to somehow get away, but now was about to die from its wounds and the cold. The Goddess held the bird to her breast and decided to change the animal from that bird form to the form of a hare in order to heal it and save its life. In moments, the bird was gone and in its place was a beautiful brown, furry rabbit. The rabbit was so grateful that it devoted itself to the Goddess Eostre from then on. The rabbit followed Her wherever She went and helped Her however it could. Soon, with the advent of the spring, the rabbit began to lay beautifully colored eggs! Somehow, in the Goddess' haste to save the poor bird and shape-shift it to a rabbit, there remained the vestiges of bird, and it laid eggs! The beautiful colors came from the Goddess's own dreams of the colors of spring blossoms and flowers she was imagining and dreaming into being! So the rabbit always gave the eggs to the Goddess as a thank offering for its life. That is why we color eggs at the Equinox to this day!
Blessed Be!
